A few weeks ago we received news from our case manager working with us through our agency, stating that the country we're adopting from is inthe process of passing lawsthat would potentially "close" that country from adoptions. On the 16th (tomorrow) of December, the country's legislative branch will meet to discuss and potentially pass a law that will create a moratorium (bad thing) on all international adoptions from countries that do not have a "bilateral" agreement with the country we're adopting from (if you read the article, you'll know where we're adopting, I just am not allowed to publicly disclose that information until our adoption has happened).
There has been a recent change (reported from the Embassy) that says that the language of the bill has potentially deleted the word "bilateral" which may allow the possibility of multilateral agreements, like the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption, to take the place of "bilateral" agreements...which we would benefit from..
Not quite sure what that means, in the mean time, but this is better news than what we received a few weeks back from our case manager (who was preparing us that the adoption might be a "no go"). Once the bill is passed, it has to be signed by their President-which looks like it could happen before the end of the year. We're not slated to head to the country until around April of 2011...
so please pray dear friends... Pray that this country would stay "open" until we have our little Davis'...

I'll keep you posted on any further news, but you can alsoread details as they are posted here.
Praying, Karen!!! It hurts my heart to hear about countries either closing or thinking about closing. And don't even get me started on the ones that are already closed!!!
ReplyDeleteChris and I are with you in prayer on this journey. Remember God is directing your journey and the reasons for any hiccups will be revealed in time, I am sure. Stay strong and hopeful.
