sweet letter.

Dear Spring...

It's soooo good to see you (No offense Winter.) I'm just blown away by how Korea "looks", since you've shown up! What elegant colors that are popping up everywhere... you certainly have delivered. In fact, you have surprised me with all these pops of color, that it might have changed my mind about Fall (who was indeed my favorite season up until this point). Until Summer comes, I will continue to revel in your beauty. Please don't go too soon... stay around for awhile, I sure am enjoying you!

Fondly Yours,
k. davis

April Showers...

Today was a typical rainy April day... which is surprising, because the rest of this month hasn't been very wet. I suppose April's trying to prove it's point before turning into May. Well, what else is there to do on a rainy day, other than put a kettle of tea on, and sew a bit! So, that's what I did. I made 3 new "On-The-Go" Drawing Stations, two large, and one small, and all three will be up in the shop today.

Coffee... any takers?

Okay, so awhile back, I believe it was on my Valentine's Day post, I talked about our favorite place to grab coffee in the downtown area. I had no idea that I would become so fond of this place, but I must say, they make an amazing vanilla latte, and the most amazing cheesecake cupcakes! I'm thinking I'm going to have to bake this week, and try and figure out how to make 'em. I never took pictures of this awesome cafe, and the other day, on our way to the "4" and "9" market, we stopped over for a little taste of goodness, before continuing on our journey. It was a beautiful day, and they had all their windows open, which are really the doors that fold together like an accordion. I couldn't help but snap a few shots of the place. You don't drink coffee?? Okay, I won't pass judgement... but they do make amazing smoothies and teas. You're in luck. So, if you're ever in the area... I'm taking you here... and if you're in the area, just let me know when you're free!

{where Jason and I had our coffees, should have taken a before picture...}

And just when you thought this place couldn't get cuter... they go and sell the sweetest little flowers...

Have I convinced those in the states to jump on a plane and travel for 24 hours to come and see me for some coffee?! If that's a "No", I'll try harder next time.

the "4" and "9" market

What a beautiful Saturday we had... the sun was shining, it was warm, and the hubby wasn't plagued with the thought of "having to work". It was the perfect day for a walk downtown and a visit to the "4" and "9" market. This market, just as it's called, is only open on days that are a "4" and "9"... so for those that are slow, since today is the "24th" of April, it's OPEN all day! We had a great time inspecting all the different types of seafood (good thing my nose is clogged from a head cold right now), seeing all the different spices, and types of rice cakes. The strawberries were huge, so of course we picked up a bunch of them for 3,000 won-which is about $2.80. So come along, take a walk with me...

As we walked to the market, we passed all these hanging paper lanterns... there were so many, and all different colors, and up against the sky, they were just gorgeous! I just had to snap away... pretty sure at this point, so early on our walk, the hubby got annoyed with my picture taking.

Alright, okay, enough with the lanterns, I know you were waiting for all the "goodies" from the market...

{spices galore}

{the HUGEST rice cakes that I have ever seen!}

{green onions...}

{I'm guessing these are turnips of some sort, or a root}

{cucumbers and zucchini}

{the hubby trying to "fit in" and LOVING the size of these berries}

All in all, a wonderful way to spend our afternoon... now I have to edit those China photos that you've been waiting on. Thank you for your patience with me, I'll hopefully post a bunch tonight.

Celebrate the Earth

Figured I would wish you a wonderful day of celebrating our beautiful Earth, by sharing some of the beauty that I captured while in China. Aren't those magnolia tree blossoms something?

China loot giveaway

I made it "home" safe and sound Tuesday early evening, and had a wonderful trip. It was short, but sweet, and I was so excited to see the hubby as soon as he was home from work. I didn't have any contact with him throughout the whole trip (I'm such a horrible wife), but he said he knew I was alive thanks to online banking and being able to see my ATM withdrawls! I must say, there was lots of shopping to do, and I tried to be as "good" as possible... and did manage to bring home some goodies for the hubby as well. Over the next few days, I'll be editing all 500+ photos, and blogging about each day that I was there. So stay tuned... but for now, I wanted to announce the winner of my China loot giveaway. I had so much fun shopping for this lucky winner. 15 ladies played along with me, and I can't believe how many lyrics you all came up with that had "China" in them. Props to those that used the word "china" as in the kind we eat on, rather than the place... very very clever! There will be plenty more giveaways in the future... but for now, I leave you with the winner...

CONGRATULATIONS GEORGIE

The Mantastic Guest Blogger

It's occurred to me that this blog’s url says “Davis Family Adventures” and one side has been blowing up the creative world w/ all kinds of wonderful things made of thread and fabric…while the other (me) has been at mandatory work appointments for the last four straight months. So, I’m living up to my side of the “Fam” and posting one of the projects I’ve finally finished up…one that has carried over from a project started in Germany. I’ve decided to depart from the feminine fabric and decided to talk about more manly things – namely wood...dark old barn wood. What could be more manerific?

We found this riddling rack (wine rack) literally the week before we packed up for Korea. Once we had it apart, Karen and I bought some baby food (yes I tasted them...I was not impressed) jars from the commissary, emptied them out and wrapped soldering wire around them and attached them to the rack. I’m pretty happy how it turned out - at least it’s a nice eye catcher when you open up the front door.

Little China Girl

Tomorrow morning, I'm heading off to the land where EVERYTHING is made, where I have been dreaming of traveling since I was a little girl... and I wish you all were coming along with me. If I could fit you in my suitcase, I totally would, but unfortunately I'm limited to 20 kilos and for me, a light packer, that still seems a bit low. I will be spending the next 4 days getting "reacquainted" with my camera/rekindling our friendship... I will be experiencing sights that I could never imagine, eating food that is going to "wow" me, and my favorite... people watch!

I'll be collecting "treasures" in this foreign land... and as soon as I get home, I will wrap them up in a sweet package and mail to whosever name I pick out of the jar... "but how do I get my name in that jar?", you ask.

It's simple:

- You get your name entered just by leaving me a fun comment on this post.
- Since you know I love music, if you enter a comment that has lyrics to a song with the word "China" in it, you will get an extra entry ( Sorry, but first come, first serve, no copying others!)
- You can get your name entered a 3rd time by following my blog (just scroll to the top right and you can find the Google friend/follower box) *no extra entry for those already following, sorry!
- You can post about this giveaway on your blog or facebook (use my button above to link back, if you'd like) and you will get yourself another entry. Please leave a comment if you've done this.

That means you could potentially have 5 chances to win! I will randomly pick a name out of the jar and announce the winner on my blog on Wednesday, 21 April. Until then, I bid you farewell!

Send Me On My Way...

Well in less than 24 hours I will have landed and already have eaten lunch in CHINA! I'm ecstatic, and I still haven't packed. Isn't that how it works though? For important trips, last minute packing is ALWAYS in order? So, instead of packing this morning, I finished up something I've been working on. It's for me... something that rarely happens... because it was my first attempt EVER at sewing zippers, and also, because it didn't turn out "good" enough to sell in my shop.

If I can find someone who sells zippers around here, I think there will be more of these being created and added to the shop. For those makeup wearers, It's big enough to hold your essentials, and for those like me... it's big enough for your lip gloss and keys that ALWAYS get lost at the bottom of your purse. Hmm... speaking of lost keys, Mr. Davis lost one of our sets of car keys, which leaves us with only 1 key right now... maybe I should have made him one of those purses so it wouldn't have gotten lost.

Apples and Pears...

Wanted to create a little more before leaving for China. I'm truly going to miss my sewing machine for a few days... had to show it some love, so it will not forget me while I'm gone. I absolutely adore this "Apples and Pears" fabric from Alexander Henry, and think it makes for a great "On-The-Go" Drawing Station. It comes in both large and small, and will be added to my shop tonight. Don't forget, free shipping. I'm also working on something new and special, and hopefully I'll have it done tomorrow so I can post about it.

Happy Tax Day!

So, today is it... it's the last day to turn in your taxes if you haven't done so already. Honestly, it's one of the first things that I , the Mr. does at the beginning of the year, as soon as we get all the right documents together. It's such a relief getting it done and out of the way, and the pay off, you get your return that much sooner! For those married to those wonderful accountants, CONGRATULATIONS, today, you get your spouse back! I also wanted to share some secret information with you, if you don't already know. Please take advantage of this, for me... especially the Starbucks one, because I can't partake in this being overseas in S. Korea. Let me know if you do, I'm curious as to how many people actually seek out "freebies".

FREE COFFEE AND TREATS:

Cinnabon: Get 2 free bite-sized cupcakes from 6-8 pm at participating mall locations as part of "Tax Day Bites!" on Thursday.

MaggieMoos (never heard of the place!): Get one free slice of ice cream pizza at participating locations from 3-7pm on Thursday.

Starbucks (my favorite!): Get free brewed coffee ALL day on Thursday, if you bring your own mug. Friendly to the environment as well as tax payers.

DISCOUNTED MEALS:

IHOP: Offering free dinner for one child age 12 or younger with each adult meal purchased from 4-10 pm... this is going on ALL month long.

P.F CHANG'S: get 15% off for food purchases, dine in or dine out, excluding happy hour food and beverages.

So there you have it, since no one likes to pay taxes, and everyone likes to get something free! And no, I am not making commission for promoting any of these places... just got some fun information, and figured I would share with all of you stateside!

Lounging Pillow

The other day, I saw this MASSIVE pillow form in the shop on base here. We've been looking for something like that for awhile... looking to make it super comfy on the floor, since we're limited to the space that we have. I think a couple of these will work just fine. I had so much fun combining all the different fabric remnants that I had from the throws that I made for the couch. Although it was mighty tough sewing this 32x32 inch pillow case, it was well worth it. I had a nice snooze on it this afternoon while the sun was shining in on the living room floor.

While I was busy creating it... my furry friend, Runyan, had a blast playing with my measuring tape.

A Sneak Peek...

Okay, I'm sorry, slacking on my part... I haven't blogged in a little bit. By a little bit, it's been longer than almost 48 hours. My sincerest apologies, I'm going into bloggin' withdrawls, but I promise, you'll be caught up soon enough. In the meantime... Mr. Davis has been quite creative, and wanted to "guest" blog on my blog, while I'm in China this weekend. Yup, that's right, I'll be gone from the 17th-20th April. I'm getting excited, and I have NO idea how to pack... HELP! Also, I'll be picking up some extra goodies on the side, for a giveaway, while I'm gone! I know, I don't have that many blog followers, but for those that follow, and for those that "visit" my blog, you'll have the opportunity to win some fun goodies from China. I'll post more about the details on Friday. In the meantime, I'll leave you with this-it's a sneak peek of what Mr. Davis is going to blog about while I'm gone, something that he's been working on:

A Love note... I think NOT.

We continue to collect the "nasty-grams" that hang in the entrance to the apartment building. I'm pretty sure that this one was created in reference to the can of pop that was dumped right in front of the elevator. None-the-less, it gave us a chuckle, and so I had to blog about it, and the hubby had to "borrow" it for our collection.

For a Rainy Day, or Mary Poppin fans...

I picked up this beautiful fabric the other day, while scoping out my "Happy Place" and HAD to sew up something beautiful with it today. It's a gorgeous, sunny day outside, and somehow I had to pick this fabric, of all the fabric that I have, to sew. I think it's just so whimsical and fun, and reminds me NOT of rainy days, but of Mary Poppins and her fun umbrella. Wouldn't it be great to fly away with an umbrella? Oh where oh where would I go? Where would you go?

It'll be up for sale in the "shop" today!

"On Time" Raffle...

Last month was the first time I ever went to a MOPS meeting. For those that have never heard of it, it's for Mothers of PreSchoolers... and yes, I am not a mom, YET... but because of being in the process of adoption, and more than likely our child will be a preschooler, I have been invited to help out, and to join in with the ladies and their fellowship. I'm so grateful for this opportunity, it's definitely helping me get "plugged" in, but it warms my heart knowing that I will be "Mom" soon. Last month was my first time and it was a great month of meeting some incredible women and also learning about "Playing with your Little One"(all the different ways we can go about this.) I'm really excited about tomorrow's meeting, and I'm even giving away some goodies for the "On Time" raffle. I hope the lucky winners enjoy... I sure did have a great time making these!

Sorry, you can only see them "wrapped" up, it's a surprise, and we don't want to ruin the surprise, right?!
