"shooting" is fun!

Just recently I decided to spend a day away from my sewing (very hard thing to do) and away from the camera ( extremely hard thing to do), and decided to "create" something different. I ended up with two different ideas/creations, and today I'd like to share one with you. The other isn't "quite" ready yet!

I know that I am in the land of the beautiful stationary/paper goods (Korea). But, I couldn't find something that I could pair up with my photography, so that's where the "creating" came into play. I'm no master at graphic design (as you will be able to tell), and I'm certainly not a whiz at "office" programs. However, I thought that these would compliment my client's photo cds well, as a "thank you" for letting me "shoot" them. I just used a google image, and some fun font that I found off the web, and voila!

*Please do not be offended by the "wording" on these... my "love to play with words" and sarcasm is evident in these cards! I am for "shooting" people... but against SHOOTING people. Hope that clarifies a bit. *

Yummies.

Today I have a "treasure" to share with you... it's some valuable information about an amazing woman, Pamela. She's quite the talented lady, who makes beautiful jewelry. Each piece is handcrafted with a beautiful array of precious and/or semi-precious gemstones, cultured freshwater pearls, and precious metals. I'm not quite sure whether or not this is wise, because you all are going to jump over to her shop and snatch up all of her "yummies"... what you don't believe me about them being yummies?? Let me show you.

Remember what I said about them being "yummies"... if you still don't believe me, check these out:
** Bonus, there are absolutely NO CALORIES in these yummies**

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

Okay, so I was WAY overdue to draw a winner for hitting 50 followers... what can I say, other than the fact that the Mr. just got home from is work trip, and I'm trying to catch up on my QT with him. "Thank You!" to all who played (I had over 25 different types of entries). I also went above and beyond 50 followers (hello to all you newbees that are just joining the fun). I enjoyed this so much, that I might have to do something HUGE when I actually hit 100 followers!

Okay, okay, so here it goes... A prize for my 50th follower, Hannah! She requested something green... and so green it was!
And now for the next winner... The Mr. did LOTS of shaking...

**I'll be putting your "something somethings" in the mail this week**

Steppin' Up...

Someone certainly missed the stairs from our old house. Can you guess who? I'll give you a hint, it's someone in our family with 4 legs and is quite the furry beast. Runyan pretty much plays "Peek-A-Boo" on these stairs all day long with me... he got extra cute when I whipped out my camera during our "play" time... such a ham.

Yes, I love my cat... there's nothing wrong with that... and yes, my cat has freckles on his nose and lips, that's his "mark" from the Florida sun... and yes, my cat's eyes are pretty creepy, the way they reflect in the camera... and yes, I'm soooo not used to stairs that I pretty much trip UP these everyday.

Winding up...

Have you ever been in the middle of a sewing project, and then you run out of bobbin thread? It absolutely happens to me ALL THE TIME. It's always at the most critical point of my project-when I'm attaching a zipper... when I'm just a couple of stitches away from finishing a project... sure enough, I run out of bobbin thread.

I know that I need to wind up a bunch of bobbins before I even "start" the project... but it's my least favorite part of sewing. Not sure what it is about it, but I feel like it's keeping me from getting to what I need to be doing... and yet, it's a crucial part of the equation. Do you have something, sewing related that just drives you nuts?

Come home... please?

You can tell that the Mr. has been gone for awhile... not because I'm moody, or crabby, or because my garbage bag is full of used tv dinner cartons... but because our bed has looked like this, the past 2.5 weeks:

I, in no way, shape or form, fix our bed everyday, but I usually make it look really nice when I wash the sheets (which I did a few days after the Mr. left)... and this is how it's looked pretty much ever since. Come home soon Mr. so the bed can look "balanced" with it's ruffledness (I know, it's not a word... I made it up for fun, for you!)

Happy Summer...

Have a great 1st day of summer everyone! I enjoyed it by washing all the windows in my house, and having some friends over for a scrumptious meal (which was followed by a yummy light dessert-pudding with blueberries and champagne mangos on top)!

*** Update, I'm up to 46 followers... only 4 more, until I hit 50... and that means we'll have a closed giveaway and some prizes to hand out!***

Candy in a Bowl

Mmmm... it's that time of the year... yup, that's right, STRAWBERRY SEASON. Usually if I was stateside, or even in Germany, I'd think about going picking... but here in Korea, I wouldn't even know where to begin looking for a place to pick. So, for now, I enjoy my store bought yummies. They seriously are, candy in a bowl.

Made this cutie today, out of a mix of Alexander Henry and Riley Blake fabric. Added an appliqued apple, to a small pocket for the front. There are also two pockets inside. It's up in the shop, and ready for a home.

Girl's Day Out

Typically when the Mr. is TDY (military talk for when he's gone for a few days, in this case 2.5 wks, doing "his" thing) I spend my days at the sewing machine, creating... or at the computer, blogging... or petting my cat, Runyan... or popping in the microwave some food, a tv dinner (hate cooking for myself)... or just being bored, by myself. Recently, I've befriended some amazing ladies, and just the other day we had a "Girl's Day Out." Such a great time. We started the day off with some beverages from a new coffee house that opened up (our favorite, "From In" was strangely closed), then proceeded from some "REAL" Korean food... it was great (didn't take photos, but will the next time I go), and then I took them to some fun "sights" around town. At this point, I FINALLY took the camera out, and started snapping away.

So "Thank You" ladies for a wonderful Girl's Day Out!! Also, to those that have to work during the day, we'll be sure to have a Night Out soon!

Incentive...

Hello fellow readers...

Happy Friday! I can't really celebrate that it's the weekend, being that the Mr. is away on official "work" business in the "land of moose and Palin fans." That's right, lucky duck gets 24/7 daylight!

So, I've decided to have a little fun (while he is gone), and I'm hoping that you'll play along... I'm looking to "UP" the amount of people I have following my blog, and I'm at 40 right now. I will send lucky #50 a special "something something" in the mail for making it to 50. Now, since most of you that are reading, are already followers, here's where you come in. I will draw another name out of the jar, and that person will win a little "something something" in the mail from me as well.

Want to play? Here's how you get your name in the jar...

  • Simple entry- you comment on my blog, and tell me something I don't already know about you
  • Blog about me, or my blog, or about my etsy shoppe.
  • Refer people to my blog in any which way(facebook, face to face, on the phone--you get the point), and if it's your friend that starts following me, make sure you tell me in another comment, and you will gain double entries into the jar.
We'll play until I hit 50! So go get 'em... game's on!

Speaking of games, did you know Runyan (my furry friend) LOVES to play Monopoly? Okay, maybe he just likes to knock over everyone's pieces and destroy all the houses and hotels, as though he were Godzilla.

Tragedy

**A post dedicated to my tragic sewing mishap today... don't read if you get whoozy over things involving blood and body parts***
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, something very tragic happened...

I was sewing up some lovelies, and in the middle of installing a zipper, my finger ended up in the way... this finger always gets in the way... once it got in the way while I was "slicing up" my fabric with a rotary cutter...needless to say, the fabric wasn't the only thing that was sliced up...

But enough about that... back to TODAYS tragedy...

Yes, no worries... there was no blood/DNA left on any of the lovelies involved... it was for my first priority...

If you can believe it, I actually had to use my "reverse" mode on my sewing machine to get the needle out of finger... and when I say finger, I mean nail, flesh, etc...

It wasn't just a tiny prick like a cholesterol test...

It was a puncture wound (needle entered from the top of my nail, and went straight through)...

If you're not grossed out enough, quite yet... know that I actually had to use a seam ripper to take out a "stitch"...

Such a tragic thing... which means I'm typing with one hand today... and this blog post took about 30 minutes of my time to type...

But that just shows you how much I love blogging...

You can feel sorry for me now... go ahead, I know you want to comment and wish me well... go on... especially since I won't be getting any manicures anytime soon... my poor finger...

To make it all worse... my hubby isn't even around to give my "boo boo" a kiss...

Okay, enough whining, and back to sewing... yes of course, not even an injury can keep me away from my machine...

(Taken after my wound was cleaned)

A little whimsy...

I recently created these beauties... different, aren't they? They are for the folks out there that are into the whimsical look... like me! I'm having so much fun creating these clutches, and I'm just going to keep 'em coming, and put them up in the shop. Let me know if you have any requests, they also make wonderful bridesmaid gifts (I can sell a bunch in a bundle for you) for those that are getting married and need something special for your ladies.

This one has a charcoal grey zipper, even though it looks like it's black.

New Item

I was asked recently to make a clutch for a friend, using the fabric from Riley Blake's new line, "Nantucket Summer" that I recently posted about. I decided to make two extra, and they'll be up in the shop for sale, for a low price, since they are my very first "go" at clutches. They were a lot of fun to create, and I foresee lots of clutches being created in the new future-different styles... different colors... I'll even custom make some if you have some special lyrics that you'd like stitched on the front band.

Creating... For me?!

That time has come... I have created something for myself! However, because I haven't figured out how to take a "self" picture, and because the Mr. is out of town (in Alaska, lucky him) for another 2.5 weeks, you all will have to be patient with me. For now, I'll send you some snippets of the creation, until I can properly photograph it. I leave you with this fun angle.
For those that will be at church tomorrow, I may wear this new creation.

Garlic... Anyone?

Today, as I was perusing the main shopping street, I heard a "beep beep" and quickly moved over to the side of the street. I was pretty close to getting hit, and then she just stopped right in the middle of the pedestrian alley, and called out in Korea, what must have been, "Garlic... anyone?" Because that, my friends, is what she had... and boy, did she have a lot of it. Many innocent bystanders scurried along, because the smell was starting to get to them, I however whipped out my camera.

Repurposed Vera Bradley fabric dress.

So I sewed up this cute dress this past week (completely forgot to photograph it, and put it up in my shop, but it has been done today!) It's an 18 month dress, but it's a bit longer than the rest... from the bottom of onesie shirt, to the bottom of the dress, it measures 14 in. So, it's for those taller gals, or for more smaller framed 24 months (would be my guess). It's made out of repurposed Vera Bradley fabric, and I think it's darling. I even added one of my "k. davis" tags to it.

Nantucket Summer

That's right, Riley Blake's Nantucket Summer is coming out this summer... but guess what?! My "Happy Place" is already carrying it. They only have a few of the fabrics, not the entire collection, but you know what, I'm okay with that. If anyone is interested, just e-mail me, and I might be able to send you some. You can view the full line, here.

New Photo Shoot Destination

So, lately... I've been trying to add some "exploring" time in between my unpacking and sewing time. Ever since we moved off base, I've been seeing Korea in a whole other light, and it's WONDERFUL! I didn't mind it before, maybe because we've only been here for 5 months, but now I'm REALLY liking it. The people are the friendliest... is it possible for them to be too friendly? The food just keeps blowing my mind, and some of the sights I've found from places that are only minutes away from my house, are just amazing me.

Which brings me to this place... I found it as the Mr. and I were driving around the other day, and I just HAD to go back to it. It's only 2 minutes away from my house, and just beautiful. It's a "hyanggyo" which refers to an institution that was established by the government at the local areas in the Joseon Period. Students learned the doctrines and history of Confucianism and led memorial ceremonies in the repose for their ancestors (this is all according to the sign that I read). It all sort of goes above my head, and I look at this place as a BEAUTIFUL photo shoot destination. So, for all who are interested, this is one place I can take you to. Oh what's that? You didn't know?? Yes, I've started a photography business over here. Lots of people have been encouraging and inspiring me to start up (you know who you are!) and so I have. You can visit my website here, but just know, it is NO WHERE NEAR DONE! I'm accepting clients now, and my calendar is wide open for you all! I'll be blogging soon about how to "book me" and some other great photo sights I can take you to, but for now, I leave you with this wonderful location.

Door... lots and lots of doors.. have you I told you lately how much I LOVE doors?

And again... another set of doors... but common, how could I resist teal/robin's egg blue!

Successful Break time...

I took a break this morning from unpacking, and got reacquainted with my sewing machine. Two more dresses are added to the shop, both are 2T/3T... I must say, one is definitely more the 2T, and the other definitely a 3T... you can tell by how poofy it is. I have no started adding the "k.davis" tag to all my dresses, in some sort of way, and I hope you enjoy.

This one is more of the 2T size...

Therefore making this one more of the 3T size...

I Won!

I entered my first photography contest/challenge, and won!! How exciting. I love sharing my photos/my passion with people around the world, but does it get any better, when winning means I get a prize? What prize might that be? Well, I now have a seat for an online workshop in July, called "Picture Summer". It's a 30-day photography project intended to encourage and inspire me to celebrate the season of sun and fun by playfully engaging my creative spirit. If anyone knows me, this is PERFECT for me! So, starting July 1, you're going to see a "photo-a-day" from me on this blog, to celebrate the summer! Thanks Natalie, for giving me this opportunity... you can view the winning blog post here.

Piles and Piles...

Well, the move was a success! We made 7 trips all on our own, filled the car with all our "small" stuff on Friday, and early Saturday morning (7:30 am) the Korean moving company came knocking on our door, ready to take on all our "big" stuff. It's amazing how efficient these guys are. I suppose the sticky buns I offered them, helped motivate them to move faster... perhaps! We were all packed up and moved into the house by 12:00 in the afternoon (on the dot). We are LOVING our new home. There are some quirky things about it, but it's what we'll remember about it once we move on to our next assignment. For now, we'll definitely be enjoying our last 2.5 year here. Can you believe it, tomorrow we'll be celebrating being in Korea for 5 months?! Enough rambling, I need to get back to these:

Piles and Piles... are EVERYWHERE!

That means lots of this:

Couldn't Stay Away...

Okay, so I couldn't stay away from my sewing machine... what's wrong with me? I'm in the middle of moving ourselves from our teeny tiny apartment to this huge single family home, and I had to SEW! I created two new dresses that'll be in the shop... both are 18 month size and sold separately!
