Guests

While relaxing/vacationing here at my parents' house in Pennsylvania, I've had the pleasure of witnessing the wonder of birth... well... in a sense. When I arrived here the Monday after Mother's Day, the Mama Finch had laid 6 eggs, and 3 out of the 6 had already hatched.

The babies had the CUTEST tufts of feathers I have ever seen... I immediately attached myself to the one who sat in the front, especially when he/she was relaxing with his beak out of the nest.

As the days went on, the tufts of feathers were replaced with beautiful adult like feathers...

Each day, more and more "woke up", but then we realized we only had 5 that completely hatched... Mama Finch lost one, when we realized that last egg hadn't been fertilized.

And then the one day came... my favorite one, the one in front, the one that was probably fed most at first, was ready to fly the nest...

and just like that... one flew out after the other... day after day...

and then there was an empty nest... and the little guys didn't even pick up after themselves... nice guests they are, right?
