EASY PEESY Party Tablecloth DIY

When it comes to birthday parties for little ones, it's super easy to feel overwhelmed. Throw in a newborn and a 1 year old... and well, just thinking about celebrating/creating a party  makes your stress level go up to crazy amounts of high. Stress levels at that high, are NO good for anyone involved or around you... so it was so important this year for Charlotte's birthday, to keep things as simple as possible. There are SO many beautiful parties thrown together, documented and put on PINTEREST... that it can become an obsession for some. Not this gal. I love looking at the photos from those parties, for ideas... but most of the time, when I see those posts... they're all put together by the Mom or Dad... and the child is hardly ever involved. For some, they love surprising their kids with a party (and keeping everything a mystery)... and that's fine... but it's not how we roll in this house. Charlotte is at an age where she has an opinion and we want her to know that her opinion matters... it counts for something. I try to never shoot down any idea that she has. I'm all about her throwing creative ideas at me. In fact, for her birthday, I tried and gave her free reign of creating the party exactly how she would want it. She asked for a few things:

- She wanted a "dress up dance party"...
- She loved her cupcake bar from last year, and wanted a "decorate your own cupcake" bar this year as well...
- She wanted a party skirt made by me that she could wear, that was new because it was her birthday...
- She knew Daddy was building a new table for the back porch, and wanted to make "a blanket" to lay on top of it... her way of saying a table cloth...
- She wanted lots of music...
- She wanted extra dress up items for her friends, so they could swap and exchange costumes ALL party long...

Charlotte is a pretty easy girl to please... and she loves when things are one of a kind (just like her Mommy)... so we went to Hobby Lobby, and picked out material for her table cloth (as well as fabric paint and notions to decorate it), and for her party skirt, along with material for a party skirt for Marley as well...

I sewed up some canvas with some rick rack in between... and Charlotte got to town with painting her very own handmade table cloth. It was a super easy DIY, and a way for her to get involved with her party. I didn't get stressed out over where the polka dots were, or how it all looked, and SHE loved her very own creation. Win Win in my book...

The rest of her party will be up on the blog tomorrow.
