When it comes to roadtrips with kids, we weren't quite sure what to expect. I've only done one massive trip (over 10 hours) to El Paso, Texas... but this was our first time taking the van out for a spin. We decided to leave SUPER early in the morning, and had everything loaded (sleepy kids and all) in the van, ready for the road at 3:30 AM.
We stopped for 1 pee break/gas stop, and 1 breakfast stop... but made it halfway before needing to get out and stretch our legs for a bit. Getting energy out, is super vital with little ones. Capulin Volcano National Park in NM was along the way... and was the perfect rest stop for us. Capulin Volcano is where The Great Plains meets The Rocky Mountains... it's quite a sight to behold. Driving there, all you see is flat plains, and then boom... a very, very large mound appears...
It probably isn't advised to take a stroller... the paths are pretty narrow, and the trail (although not long) is MIGHTY steep. But, we made it around the rim with our BOB dualie... so it is possible. You'll get quite the workout though.
We snacked at the top, echo'd our "hello's" down to our van in the parking lot (you can see how far down it is in the last shot), and made our way around the rim to our descend. Highly recommend it to anyone that needs a place to stretch their legs.
We made it to Colorado before dinner, after making one more "stretch your legs" pitstop in Pueblo. Getting out of the van for our final stop, our hotel... best.feeling.ever.
What beautiful shots, and great place for stretching (and strengthening) the legs! I love how Mars is making sure she fuels back up after the hard workout.
