Rain... Rain... Don't Go Away.

To say we missed the rain... would be an understatement. The rain clouds came and poured for about 5 minutes... so naturally, we played in it.

nothing like it.

Many... many summers were spent in Canada visiting my grandparents who farmed on an acre (or so) garden... My grandpa was a beekeeper, and tended to chickens as well as kept up with the garden. My grandmother has a way with flowers... a special touch... There was this beautiful rock garden, and all of her pots always had a beautiful collection of flowers. There were rows upon rows of raspberry bushes, a strawberry patch, gooseberry and current bushes. The apple trees grew super tart apples... but totally still edible.

I have the fondest memories of picking and eating straight from the garden. I never knew how much hard work and dedication it was, until I had my own. I only have a fraction of the size of their garden, and it takes me hours to keep up with it. But there's NOTHING like eating from your own garden...

Though my garden is growing slowly... it is steady. I can pick beans, snow peas and cut flowers right now. In a few weeks there "should" be tomatoes, squashes, peppers and cucumbers. I limited how much I planted this summer, so that I could really pay a close attention to each and every plant. Learn what it loves, learn what it hates... learn how to keep pests away. I love having enough to pass along to dear friends... especially the flowers. But the best part, is watching my littles enjoy it just as much as I do.

Celebrating "2"

We like to keep things simple, and again, that's what we did for Marley's birthday. She didn't mind one bit, as long as cake was involved... presents were an added bonus... add a new splash pad experience and some swinging, and I don't think she could have thought up a better birthday.

Dear Marley Wren { 24 Months }

Dear Marley Wren,

Happy Birthday sweet bird. It feels like you just turned 1... and here we are, celebrating your 2nd birthday...

You grew so much from your first year into your second year... we can't even get over the little girl you have become. You have a mind of your own, and everyone knows it. No one, can get in your way... you're a force. A very very very stubborn force. Most of the time you're a super independent lady, but this year, you've definitely figured how to "ask for help". You're not quick to ask for it, but you do especially when you get frustrated. Sometimes you ask Charlotte for help, instead of Mommy and Daddy... and it's so sweet to watch you two work together at something. You love to build with blocks, play dolls, play hospital, play school, jump on the trampoline, pick flowers and play in mulch, swim at the pool, color, push your babies around in the wagon, go on stroller walks, and just explore. You have such a wild heart... it's a beautiful thing. You're adventurous and as curious as can be... always ready for something new. You love change... welcome change easily... and it's an awesome thing to be, being a military child.

Your are a snacker... you used to eat your meals so well, but lately you just want to eat little snacks all day long instead of 3 big meals with snacks.  You love cheese sticks, raisins, every fruit known to man, hummus sandwiches, most vegetables (especially broccoli, cauliflower, and zucchini), and spaghetti.

You love to dance... at just about any song. Even if it's a slow song, you dance like it's a fast beat song. You throw around 4-5 word sentences these days... we understand you, but some people don't always catch every word you say. You sing, especially you're "night night" song... and give the best hugs. You snuggle right into our arms when it's time to go to sleep... but once you're in your crib, you and Charlotte love to giggle yourselves to sleep (now that you share a room).

What a big sister you are to Finn... you squeeze him, and give him "mooches" (smooches)... you love to tackle him, and let him play with you and Charlotte. You're going to be such a protector the older he gets. You're fiesty, and that side tends to come out when other kids around him play in his space. Most people these days think the two of you are twins (when you're in the stroller)... it probably will only be a few more months before he starts towering over you. Your love for your brother and sister is deep... it's so wonderful to watch.

Marley, continue loving life sweet girl... continue being you... the one we love so dearly.

Daddy, Mommy, Charlotte and Finn
