Heart is There

We can't really say "no" to visiting a farmer's market. They are BY FAR one of our favorite things to do as a family. They are all so different here in the city. They're all on the smaller side (when you compare them to European markets or even Pennsylvania Farmer's Markets) but the heart is still there. It's filled with folks who are all about keeping it local (buying, growing, selling, etc.) We ventured to the Uptown Farmer's market (only once a month on Sundays) this past Sunday after church. Although the food was scrumptious, the most fun was seeing the sweet animals with Agvocates. I think I squealed just as much as the girls at the ducklings and chicks.

The Year To Succeed

I have planted cold weather crops 3 times now, and have NEVER had success with them. I have had plenty of carrot hair, but no carrots... plenty of broccoli leaves, but no broccoli... kale that only grows to be 3 inches long before frost hits. I think part of the problem is that I usually had a newborn to care for around this time of the year for the last 2 years. So, this year... it's MY year... I will succeed at these cold weather crops... there's no giving into failure. It sounds like an awful lot of pressure... but people, I really want to harvest purple carrots.

Field of Dreams

I'm not sure if you know this about me or not, but I love flowers... and I have this dream to have rows upon rows of flowers one day... you could say a field of flowers. You know, the kind that you could totally frolic in... toes in the soil, sniffing in the beautiful fragrant air... I love that my girls love flowers just as much. I'm thinking they'll be great at helping me make this dream a reality one day...

The Little Spoons Fall 2015 Line

When it comes to doing laundry... it's amazing how many days I can go before I need to do a load for the kids... but then when I have to do it, there's QUITE a lot to do. There's this "movement"... a new way of doing "clothes"... called a capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe is a term coined by Susie Faux, the owner of a London boutique called "Wardrobe" in the 1970s. According to Faux, a capsule wardrobe is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that don't go out of fashion, such as skirts, trousers, and coats, which can then be augmented with seasonal piece (thank you Wikipedia for a quick definition). A lot of women are creating capsule wardrobes so that they can 1. cut back on frivolous spending on clothing. 2. make it easier to pick out an outfit each time you have a stare down with your closet. 3. makes for easier packing for vacations and laundry duty.  It's a sort of minimalist trend, and that's what I'm trying to achieve in my household. First up, has been my kids' closets.

The idea is to invest in pieces (only a limited 37 at the most) that are fashionable (but nothing crazy that'll go out of style over the years) and amazing quality. I'm taking it to another level. I'm trying to purchase items that are unisex, so that I can carry them down from Marley to Finn... and so on (especially pants). I add an element of feminine or masculine, through their shirts or accessories. I'll be blogging more on creating a capsule wardrobe for children soon, but for now, I did want to share that one of my very favorite shops, The Little Spoons launched her Fall Line today, and it does not disappoint. Hilary's creations have become "staples" in this household... totally loved by my littles.
