First Days of Summer

Summer break came mid June this year... which is a bit later than most. We welcomed it with a full embrace... it's our favorite time of the year around here. The days are long, and the sunlight is just glorious... when we sleep, we sleep hard... and the bathtub water is back to being brown. It's amazing how 80 degree days, feel like 100 degree days for us, now that our blood has thickened... so the sprinklers turn on, and we enjoy a quick dip into the cold Puget Sound. We stay in our jammies until noon, and then go straight into swimsuits/diapers or just underwear. That means less laundry for me... and you will NEVER hear me complain about that. There's something so beautiful about a day with no plans in it...

None Like You

Dear Charlotte,

What a 7 years it has been... Happy 7th Gotcha Day to you beautiful. You're our girl who keeps us on our toes daily, curiosity like no other, loves so tenderly... our Charlotte Wray Davis... there is none like you.

This last year has been filled with a lot of figuring out a new normal... we've gotten used to our new home and surroundings and all it offers us, but as everyone in the house grows older, the dynamics are quickly changing up on us often. Your sisters now are nearly through the "baby" stage, which opens up so much more for us to do... less limitations... which equals, more fun. You are still a huge help with your brother and sisters, and for that we are endlessly grateful for you. When you do things "joyfully"... it just about is the best thing on the planet... your reaction to us, sets up the rest of the family... because your brother and sisters always look up to you.. watch what you do, and follow right along.

You finish up 4th grade in a few days, and that is such a huge accomplishment... we couldn't have dreamed up a better teacher for you for this year. She knew exactly how to challenge you, and how to accept all your differences... you are a light for your school dear girl... for everyone around you. You received the "Terrific Kid Award" for "inclusiveness"... it's definitely a word that we would use to describe you, so we are thankful that your teachers saw that in you, and applauded you for it.

You started singing in a choir this year... and after your first practice, you shared, "Mom, I found my people." To know that it is your passion, and to be with others with that exact passion... is a beautiful thing. You still enjoy gymnastics and creating art... but music seems to take precedent over everything.

Our adoption journey... is just that... a journey that continues along. We've tackled quite a bit of challenges with you this year. In a world that so easily can leave us feeling so alone, we remind you constantly that we are navigating this WITH you... you are NEVER alone.

You are such a blessing to us... keep on celebrating life precious child,

Daddy, Mommy, Marley, Finn, Josephine and Mable.

It's Always Grand

Our time with the grands... is always grand. It's been a month since their visit, and we're still sharing all the details of our time with them, reliving each and every moment. It always goes by too quickly... and then the kids are stuck with these withdrawals like no other. Laughs and giggles are shared, hugs and smooches are given... adventures are always had.
