Christmas 2018

A few years back (when the twins had just been born), my Dad and Mom (and grandma and brother) came into town to celebrate Christmas with us... and this year my husband's Dad and Mom (Grammie and Papa "D") came to celebrate with us. It just made this year, all the more special. Lots of baking, adventuring, and crafting the days leading up to Christmas, as well as reconnecting and reacquainting... Christmas came in a hurry, and left in a hurry... but what a wonderful time it was.

I want to remember these moments about this year...

- Every time Jo enters the room with the Christmas tree in it, she exclaims, "TREEEE!"... and Mable calls it a "Fishmas Tree". In fact, every green tree outside (which is a lot up here in the PNW) is a "Fishmas Tree" to Mable.

- A couple of days before Christmas, Marley and Finn noticed that everyone's stockings were full, except for Mom's... Marley was completely devastated over this... and immediately started making craft projects (all out of paper)... wrapping everything up with Christmas paper... and shoved my stocking FULL. It made me giggle on Christmas morning. Also, projects made in Kindergarten for Christmas, and sent home as surprises... might be my favorite thing.

- Having Grammie and Papa D with us this year, was such a fun time. I sewed up two stockings to match ours (for future Christmas' spent with us)... and the kids picked out fabulous fabrics for the inside of each. Omi and Opa, you'll have to spend another Christmas with us, so I can do the same for you!

- There was no snow this year... the weather, was actually incredibly mild for this time of the year... sprinkles of rain and cloudy. The kids lamented, since last year we had a dusting of snow.

- Hours after Christmas seemed disastrous (with new stuff all over the place), but those moments are fairly quiet, as all of the littles dig into playing with all of their new stuff.

- Cinnamon buns for the win... I halved the recipe this year, so less pans were made... must remember to let the dough rise for a little while longer next year. They were a little dense.

- Our afternoon stroll on the water, might have been my favorite part of the day... getting fresh air, and the "energy" out... felt good for all (pictures to come soon in a blog post!)

The Sight Never Grows Old

As soon as we cut the tree down, Marley started requesting (on the hour) to decorate it. It's her favorite thing... she's been waiting so patiently since before Thanksgiving. I'm that personality that loves to savor the month of November... but she's ready to roll right into Christmas as soon as Thanksgiving is done. When they get older... it'll be so neat to see how they run their households with the holidays.

We didn't get around to decorating our tree for a few days after we cut it down. The smell... oh the delightful smell... I can't get enough of it. The day after Charlotte's Christmas concert, we pulled all the boxes out, and begun. The lights went up first... and I think the kids are with me... the bubble lights, they're A LOT of work. Clipping them onto each and every branch, is a pain... and then they still don't always stand up straight. Everyone's OCD came out trying to make sure they were perfect... Next up, were everyone's ornaments... the kids all received their new ornaments for the year... and hung up their old ones as well, except for Mable. She didn't want to let her ornaments go to the tree... she wanted to hold on to them the ENTIRE time. She was devastated to put them on, so she kept taking everyone else's ornaments off the tree... and then it became the "Christmas tree with ornaments on only the top half of it" Christmas tree... But every time Mable enters the room where the tree is, she takes a deep breath, and goes "awe... wow." I can't blame her... the sight never grows old.

The Hunt of 2018

Hunting for our tree... continues to be, one of our favorite times of the year. We saw that sun was on the forecast for the day, and the hubby had off from work, so we signed out our two oldest girls from school early (Charlotte and Marley) and headed straight for the farm. We searched in a new spot this year... and although most were pretty small there, our tree stood out to me. I pointed it out, and everyone huddled around to approve it... and down it went. Each year, gets a little sweeter... this year the twins joined us by foot... and watching them delight in everything, was the best.
